Awareness

A skill directly related to fluent reading, active listening, and metacognition. Do I comprehend correctly what I have just read? Have I engaged the mental actions of monitoring my understanding of the text whilst making connections with prior knowledge and predicting the authors purpose and type of writing? Then, can I reformat the information categorising the essential versus additional information? Do I understand and am able to mentally summarise and identify the stated main idea and implied meaning of the text? This is a complex and layered skill to develop.  

 

Application

As this is a child-centred approach, it requires consistent monitoring and clever analysis of the individual’s level of understanding. Self-mastery is a journey of awareness, understanding, and improvement, whilst also being slightly challenged to achieve a new personal standard with ease. High expectations through considered challenges develop and nurture an individual child’s abilities and personal capabilities. The considered development of reading, speaking, listening, comprehending, writing, and imaginative skills reinforce self-confidence and promote learning to confidently thrive.
